Julia De Simone

Director, screenwriter and researcher. Julia is a partner in Mirada Filmes and has been dedicating herself to audiovisual production since 2003. She is a Master's student in Contemporary Arts Studies (UFF), and has a degree in Creative Documentary from Observatorio de Cine, in Barcelona. She directed and scripted the feature-length documentaries Aracati (IDFA 2015) and Bildungsroman (2012). Her short films, Rapacity (2023), Vaccine Symphony (2022), The Harbor (2013), Study for the Wind (2011), Symphony (2010), and Enchantment (2008) were screened and awarded at festivals such as Rotterdam, Festival do Rio, Tiradentes, Documenta Madrid, Bafici, São Paulo IFF, among others. For television, she directed the series Segundo Take (Canal Curta!), Homo Brasilis (Arte 1), Segue o Som (TV Brasil) and Por que a gente é assim? (Canal Brasil). She is currently working in the post-production of her first fiction feature-film, Formosa Beach, a coproduction between Brazil and Portugal (Hubert Bals Fund, World Cinema Fund and FSA). Julia also works as a teacher, project consultant, and collaborator in audiovisual selection committees.
